Dr. Popular Gentle Bhusal
Dr. Bhusal has over 25 years of experience in research, policy and program interface with a primary focus on climate change adaptation, poverty, livelihoods, disaster risk reduction, natural resource governance, and gender equality and social inclusion. He is currently affiliated with Clim Adapt, a research and policy organization based in Nepal. His past assignments include Country Director for Ipas USA in Nepal, Team Leader- Oxford Policy Management, and Deputy Country Director for CARE International in Nepal. From June 2023 to July 2024, I did serve as a Climate Change and Environment Advisor to the Right Honorable Prime Minister of Nepal. Academically he is trained in climate change adaptation and natural resource management. Dr. Bhusal has accomplished his PhD in climate change adaptation —which he studied from a socio-economic and institutional perspective—from Charles Sturt University in Australia, where he is also an adjunct senior research fellow from 2014 to date. Prior to this, he has obtained master’s degree in forestry science from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand and a master’s degree in Zoology (Ecology) from the Tribhuvan University, Nepal and a bachelor’s degree in forestry (with distinction) from the Institute of Forestry, Nepal. Dr. Bhusal has been extensively published research on topics including climate change, livelihoods, natural resource governance, poverty, and gender. His research and development interests lie in research-policy and practice interface around climate justice, natural resource governance, and a people centered, and rights-based approach to development.
